SUMMARY:June Meeting - Nick Dawson
DESCRIPTION:Nick Dawson’s bio: “I have been an avid photographer for what seems all my life (well\, at least since age eight!) and have been privileged to have traveled extensively with my cameras. I have always been interested in landscape\, nature (flora and fauna)\, sports and event photography and that continues to be the case. From a Kodak Brownie to a current model Canon R5 my photographic equipment has been an eclectic mix.” \nVISITING TURKEY AND BALLOONING IN CAPADDOCIA \nAfter visiting the cultural sights of Istanbul\, it was off to central Anatolia and Cappadocia to explore the magnificent scenery\, geology\, and cultural history of the region by road and hot air balloon. Having been previously able to crew on a balloon for a friend who is a professional hot air balloon pilot\, in the US and France\, I was able to experience more than the average tourist and become more immersed in Turkish culture and daily life.

SUMMARY:Winter Outing: Trumpeter Swans at Hiram\, AR
DESCRIPTION:Join us to photograph the beautiful migrating swans while they winter in Arkansas. \nThis Saturday a “leaderless group” of us are going to photograph the Trumpeter Swans and you’re welcome to join us. \n\nThis is an excellent photo opportunity for wildlife in AR as the swans only migrate here a few months out of the year. Generally they’ll start leaving in February.\n\nWhat to Carry:\n\nLens: a telephoto zoom lens is preferred. The swans are used to people and will come close to us. However\, most flights will happen far from the shore. Ideally a range up to 300mm or above. Longer the better.\n\nSomething to kneel/lie on that is waterproof. Only required if you would like to capture eye level images.\n\nRain gear. There is a chance of rain this weekend.\n\nTripod is not required but some might find useful – especially to stabilize larger lenses.\n\nDate and Time:\nMeet at 3:30PM on Saturday January 18th. It’s not a larger area so you’ll see other photographers there.\n\nLOCATION:\nHiram Road just outside Hiram\, Arkansas\nEast Pond\nhttps://maps.app.goo.gl/imStNgbQXQoZVXFF6\n\nPlease Donate!\nThere are donation boxes on both ponds that go towards the bird’s seed and to maintain the ponds. Please donate!\n\nEast Pond:\nTaking off or landing shots are easier to capture on the east pond as they always fly to the far side of the pond. You are able to kneel or lie down to capture eye level images.\n\nWest Pond:\nThis pond has a dark background for more contrast with the swans. However\, you are not able to get to water level resulting in all images being shot down at the swans – unless they are flying. \nMore information about the Trumpeter Swans: \nhttps://somewhereinarkansas.com/swans-in-arkansas/

I now use the 5D Mark IV and the R5 cameras. I primarily use the EF 16-35mm\, EF 24-105mm and RF 100-500mm lenses. I have participated in several DD and fine arts groups since joining PSA in 2016 and am currently the administrator for DD4.
