May Outing – Bois D’Arc Creek
May 31 @ 6:15 am - 7:00 pm CDT

About the Outing:
This trip caters to photographers of all experience levels. Most shooting will involve patiently waiting in areas known for bird activity, but you’re free to explore the levees and nearby trails at your own pace. The environment offers excellent opportunities for bird-in-habitat shots, action shots (e.g., takeoffs, feeding), and landscape/wildlife context images.
Subjects You May Be Able to View:
Anhingas, green herons, and night herons
Ibis (White faced and glossy)
Prothonotary warblers, vireos, and other migratory species
Scissor-tailed flycatchers
Gallinules (common and purple)
Woodpeckers
Alligators, turtles, and other wetland wildlife!

Here are a few things to consider for this outing:
Photography Gear Checklist:
DSLR/mirrorless camera bodies
Zoom lenses (300 mm+ strongly recommended for birding)
Extra batteries (expect heavy usage throughout the day)
Extra memory cards
Sturdy tripod or monopod (important for stability during long waits)
Lens cleaning kit (humidity and insects may affect lenses)
Weather protection (for gear and yourself – e.g., camera rain covers, microfiber towels)
Portable storage or backup drive (optional but useful for high-volume shooters)
Other Recommendations:
Bug spray
A chair (for those planning to wait in one area)
A blind (if you own one, you are welcome to bring it)
Hiking boots and a walking stick (especially for exploring the levees)
Snake gaiters (HIGHLY recommended)
Bear spray (wild hogs may be present)
Stay alert for alligators—this is the beginning of their mating season, and you may hear roaring
Small first aid kit
Plenty of bottled water
Facilities Notice:
Please note: There are no restroom facilities at Bois D’Arc.
We recommend planning accordingly before arriving. The nearest restrooms will likely be in the town of Hope (~20 minutes away). This is important to keep in mind, especially for those staying for extended periods.
